sophie is a dependent little creature. she relies on us to feed her and take her out, and for countless other things. but over time, she’s learned to become a lot more independent than she use to be. for example, instead of following me around constantly at home, she finds her own forms of entertainment. she takes herself to bed when she’s tired and she snuggles up to us when she’s looking for some family time.
the point of sophie’s new found independence though, is a lesson that we can all learn from. at work, too many of us rely too heavily on others for support and help. we come up against something that we’ve never done or feel uncomfortable doing and we freeze, waiting for a coworker to help us out. but now that I’m at a startup (and honestly since the beginning of my career), I’ve been too impatient to wait for someone else to help me. instead of relying on your coworkers to help you at every turn, try to do something new on your own. of course, there are times when we absolutely need to ask for help, but it doesn’t need to happen constantly. be brave, try something new and start to become use to being uncomfortably excited.
