the word “rest” is a hard pill to swallow for me. I usually associate it with doing nothing, relaxing my mind, and chilling out… but I also associate it with not getting stuff done, slacking, and generally wasting time. the later half is what drives me crazy! rest is so necessary to overall health, but for those of us that like to have lots of things going on, it can be hard to grasp and execute on.
sophie, if you don’t already know, is the queen of rest. the girl rests like it’s no one’s business. granted, she doesn’t have the same list of responsibilities that most of us do, but she’s great at getting her rest in. this week, I’ve tried to emulate her as much as possible, taking the time to nap when I need it, walking away from a mountainous email inbox for a short break, and challenging my mind to stay quiet. and even with the tiny bit of added rest, I’m feeling a lot better. my body is handling stress more efficiently and I’m less apt to react to external stressors. take a page out of sophie’s book, and try to get in some rest when you know you need it, there’s so much good in it.
