I love working hard. I love hustling and focusing and making things happen. but most of the time, I push myself way way too hard and end up burning out. since I’m starting to get to the “I’m too tired I can’t move” point, I’ve tried focusing on what I really need to keep myself afloat, happy, and un-burned out.
the first thing I do when I notice a burn out approaching is to find a way to convince myself that I need to take it easy. this is super hard for me to do, but it’s the most important step in getting myself back on track. even though I always have something to do, I try my best to take a step back and do something that requires little brain energy. sometimes it’s a hike, or sometimes a night out with the Mr, but usually it’s a night in browsing blogs, pinning beautiful images, and ordering my favorite sushi. the day after this little rest, I have to make a conscious effort not to feel guilty about resting. it’s so hard! but seriously, don’t feel guilty.
next step – find things that you can remove. most of the time, I’ve signed myself up for far too much and some of it can go. I love doing everything, seeing everything, and basically avoiding FOMO at all costs, but it’s just not that important to keep up with everything all the time. I also try to fit a couple things into the same amount of time. so I’ll snap my headphones on, cue the classical studying music, and download images for work while answering emails.
and then there are my favorite things to do when I’m burned out… alllll of my favorite things. I try to call my mom for a chit chat, she’s the best at making things seem totally fine and happy. I visit my horse Winston and snuggle with the princess Sophie as much as possible to keep my animal therapy to an all time high. I drink lots of water, eat salads, and eat chocolate. I go for runs, read casual books, and browse magazines. I do everything and anything that I know makes me the happy Yennie I know and love. and then I’m usually feeling much better!
so, what do you do to combat burnout? how do you deal with it when you do get hit with it?
