happy earth day!! I love everything about earth day because it’s so good at rallying everyone to appreciate the world around them. it’s also a great time of year where everything is blooming, we’ve come out of winter hibernation, and things seem more possible than ever before. I want to shed light on some companies who work to save the world one day at a time. Here are my favorites:
Access Water: pioneered by two fearless and mountain moving women, Access Water is focused on bring awareness around the critical water crisis in areas around the world where education is limited. specifically, they’re aiming to reach a total of 2 million classrooms and 50 million children by visiting the areas first hand and developing easy access education that can be shared across age groups.
SolarNow: based in Uganda, this company focuses on building and installing small scale solar systems in areas that are ripe for solar impact, but low on finance and resources. consider this – if people have access to electricity powered by the sun, they’re harnessed with the tools to study more, build businesses, and grow in many ways.
Sanery: have you ever considered what life would be life if you didn’t have access to basic water and sanitation? most of us have not, yet, 80% of Kenyan residents do not have access to basic sanitation. enter Sanery, a company working to change the way toilets are made available and installed in homes and businesses across the country.
Recyclebank: the importance of resource conservation is the same around the world. but some communities have different restrictions and regulations that are hard to understand. Recyclebank is an encyclopedia of knowledge on localized recycling and reward system for treating the Earth better. playing around their website is the best way to check out all their resources.
COTAP: offset CO2 emissions and pay people in third world countries better wages? count us in. COTAP matches funding with forestry projects, creating jobs and absorbing tons of CO2 in the process. we like.
#CLIMATE: mobile apps are prevelant in today’s world and nothing makes more excited than connecting new technology with the world’s problems. this company helps people all over the world connect with each other to talk about ideas and ways to solve real world problems. obviously an app can’t solve the world’s problems in one fail swoop, but this is one more step forward.
what are you favorite earth friendly startups?
