getting a glimpse behind the lives of successful and fun women is one of my favorite things to do. I love asking my friends and colleagues alike what their days look like. it often provides insight or tips that I can use in my own schedule. today we’re hearing from Sarah Mitus, PR girl by day and blogger extraordinaire of Her Pursuit of Sunshine by night (plus a ton of other things), check out what a day in her life looks like!
7:15am – First alarm goes off!
7:40am – I actually get out my butt out of bed and jump into the shower. I have to
leave by 8:30am to make it to work on time at the PR/Marketing Agency I work for
in downtown SF.
8:30am – Sit on the bus either listening to music, reading a book on my kindle, or
catching up on articles I pocketed the day before. I’m newly into this app called
“Pocket” that has a Chrome plugin and phone integration, that allows you to save
articles you want to read later when you have more time.
9 – 9:15am – Sit at my desk and go through emails. I try to be good about not
checking work email until I’m in the office. Sometimes it’s a good thing, sometimes
it’s a bad thing!
10:00am – My first client meeting of the day is every Monday at 10am. It’s sort of
tough to get started and be prepared every Monday, but I’ve gotten used to it at this
point and it gets me right into what my priorities are for the week. While I do a lot of
prep on Friday afternoon, every Monday I have to be ready to speak to the client’s
social media channels and any big updates on the channels themselves.
10:30am – Transition quickly into the second client meeting, going off on status
items for the week. Sometimes we’ve got a launch coming up, sometimes a blog post
is in process, or sometimes we’re just checking things off the list!
11:15am – Quick fifteen minute meeting with my Executive Vice President. When my
EVP first became an EVP, she met with a bunch of us Level 1 employees (Assistant
Account Executives through Senior Account Executives) to get to know us and hear
about how things were going at the lower account levels. She casually said, “We
should do this on a regular basis,” but only myself and one other woman followed up
on it. This coworker and I try to get 30 minutes on her calendar once a month,
where each get to talk to her for 15 minutes. While it’s not a lot of time, and it often
gets cancelled, it’s great exposure to someone much higher up than you. Always
remember, if they say, “let’s do this again,” you have every reason to ask them to!
12:00pm – Have a sad desk lunch while finishing up the last details on the next
week’s editorial calendar for the social channels I manage. The person who reviews
my calendars is a busy product manager, so he’s scheduled time to review my
content on Monday afternoons. This is one deadline I always have to make!
1:00pm – Really dig in on the deliverables I have to get to this week. Sometimes
that’s a wrap report, sometimes it’s reaching out to people to be influencers or
create images for us. There’s always a lot of moving parts in the agency world!
3:00pm – In need of a break! Either will grab tea from the kitchen with a coworker,
or sometimes will get up to sit in a different place in the office. We have some
beautiful leather couches that somehow really help me focus.
5:00pm – Last call of the day, trying to coordinate with a random team in India on a
problem their having in the Facebook ads manager.
5:30 – Run out the door to try to make a 6PM BodyPump class at 24 Hour Fitness –
success! I was never a regular weight lifter, but I seriously love this class. And,
bonus, I think it’s made a big difference in the tone of my arms and legs.
7:45pm – Make it home and start cooking dinner. Sometimes I cook a big meal on
Sunday and then have it throughout the week, but lately I’m on a salad kick. I’m
really into putting red roasted potatoes in my mixed green salads.
8:00pm – Time for my guilty pleasure – the Bachelorette! Friends of mine started a
Bachelor(ette) fantasy league, so its always something I try to keep up on. My
fantasy team isn’t doing so well this season, but its still funny to follow along.
10:00 Start to get everything I can ready for tomorrow so that when I wake up late
I’m not SUPER late. Usually that involves picking out what I’m going to wear,
packing up breakfast and lunch.
11:30pm – If I’m lucky, I’m asleep by 11:30. Usually though it’s around midnight.
